ABOUT ONLINE GAMES
------------------
Various games are offered by Marvin which can be played from terminal
screens. These programs fall into several catagories. In addition, work
is being done to support 'network playable' games (such as rot, Xtrek, etc)
through direct dial-in ppp sessions. We are also looking at running
MS-DOS 'DOOR' games through dosemu.

Most of the terminal games we support are built with a version of ncurses
that we have modified for compatibility with 'PC Doorway' mode terminal
programs. However, best results may be found with true ANSI/DEC VT102
emulators.

For convenience, our games have been broken down into the following
catagories:

CAMPAIGN GAMES
--------------
Campaign games generally are games in which multiple people participate
over multiple login sessions. This catagory covers games such as
'Dragonlore MUD', 'Imperium', etc.

While multiple players can participate in these games, they generally do
not interact with one another live within the game (see Multi-Player
games). Some of our campaign games may require users to pre-apply before
they could join, and may from time to time become 'full'. Please advise
the sysop if you find this to be the case.

We currently offer two major campaign games, Dragonlore and Imperium, each
of which has its own documentation.

* DRAGONLORE MUD

Dragonlore is known as a 'MUD' (Multi-user dungeon), and in many ways is
a complete BBS and environment unto itself. We have started from the
Circle MUD code and are slowly evolving it to suit our needs. We will
assemble documentation for playing Dragonlore in the months ahead.

* IMPERIUM

As the leader of one of several galactic races, you are out to conquer
the galaxy through trade, diplomacy, and/or war.  Two games are offered;
a beginners game which is open to the public but has a limited number of
'slots' for new players, and an advanced game which is open on request
and has room for up to 100 active players.

LEGACY GAMES
------------
Legacy games seem to only run well on VT100 or similar terminals with
accurate ANSI terminal emulation programs. They have been segregated from
our other games for this reason. Most are single player games.

MULTI-PLAYER GAMES
------------------
These games generally require multiple players to be online and active
within the game program at the same time. This will be of limited value
until we add more phone lines.

SINGLE PLAYER GAMES
-------------------
Many of our single player games can be played in a single login session.
Others (such as adventure games) may allow you to save where you left off
for play at a later time. Most use screen oriented graphics.
