This archive contains a basic Pbox setup without any Fido access routines.

This is an example setup which can be expanded and modified by each
individual sysop. Please experiment with this setup to make sure you understand
how the system works. Once you are happy with the system, expand the message
and file areas to suit yourself. See the various text files in the DOC
directory for details on how to do this.

The bbs system is constantly evolving, and is not (yet) complete.
In particular......

1. Ansi and VT100 use different character sets, so accented characters do
not display properly in VT100. Encourage users to use ANSI terminals until
I fix this in the server.
2. The documentation is incomplete.

Having said all that, this archive is a fully working system, usable except for
the points outlined above.

If you are currently running a Qbox board and wish to convert to Pbox, there
are utilities to help you in the file QtoPxxx_zip where xxx is the version
number. This archive contains automated conversion utilities.
Please familiarise yourself with Pbox BEFORE converting your Qbox files.
The conversion utilities will overwrite FILES_DBS MAREAS_DBS FAREAS_DBS
USERS_DBS and all MSG_*_DBS areas with versions created from your original
Qbox files.

Do not replace any executable files from this archive with different versions
unless you are sure you know what you are doing.
Please use Jonathon Hudsons Infozip compatible Zip and Unzip programs for
Pbox. Other versions may not have compatible command-lines.

You will need to edit the contents of some files to match your system.
These are:-

Pbox_boot Check filenames in this file match those on
                                your system.
Pbox_system_dat Check filenames in this file match those on
                                your system.
pbox_info_bulletin_dat Add your own bulletins to the list
pbox_magic_dat Put your own magic filenames in.

pbox_info_pbox0 These are example bulletins and will need
pbox_info_quanta0 editing or replacing.

Pbox_Menu_File0 Change the menus to suit yourself
Pbox_Menu_File1
Pbox_Menu_Info0
Pbox_Menu_mail0
Pbox_Menu_mail1
Pbox_Menu_main0
Pbox_Menu_main1
Pbox_Menu_sysop0

pbox_logoff_scn Change these to suit yourself
pbox_LOGON_SCN
pbox_newuser_scn

If you wish to add your own menu programs to the system, you are encouraged to
get the full DBAS package from Quanta or download from a QL bulletin board.
This explains how the database system works, and has examples in basic,
assembler, and 'C'. BUT if you replace DATA_BIN from this archive with another
version, make sure you configure it to use CASE INDEPENDANT searches.

Thanks must go to Thierry Godefroy for providing the french language files
and menus in this archive. It would be helpful if sysops who create other
language files could please pass them on to me for inclusion in later releases.

Phil.
