Usage: offices <menu letter> - to bypass the offices menu
offices - to select from the offices menu

The offices and their special abilities are:

Holy Paladin
------------
The Holy Paladin has the ability to bring people to jail and set a fine for
their release.

Royal Assassin
--------------
The Royal Assassin has the special ability of being able to attack other
players anywhere, including safe havens. The only limitation is that once
the assassin has murdered someone, they must wait a full minute before
being able to once again invoke the special ability of a safe haven attack
(to prevent the assassin from sitting in town square and murdering someone
into oblivion).

High Judge
----------
The High Judge may grant pardons to players in jail. Also, depending on how
your sysop has configured the game, the High Judge may be able to pardon
other player's EVIL points. Also configureable is the High Judge's ability
to assign EVIL points to another player.

High Governor
-------------
The High Governor may impeach any of the above officers at any time. A new
vote may be called immedately upon impeachment.

Using the "offices" command you can:

- Display the current state of the offices of the realm
I.E. who occupies them (if anyone), if there is a vote in progress (and who
are the first and second place vote getters), or if not, when a new vote
  can be initated.

- Cast a vote for one of the offices
A new election may be called any time an office is unoccupied. To call for
a new election, simply vote for someone. Once a vote has been called, the
number of days that the election lasts is determined by your sysop.
Similarly, once someone has been elected to office, the number of days
before a new election can be called is also determined by your sysop.
Election notices are placed in the public forum.

Note: The top player of each class is a "grand poobah" and receives a
special title (e.g. Barbarian Chieftain, Sorcerer Supreme, etc). Depending
on how your game is configured, grand poobahs may be able to cast more than
one vote in an election. The default is for a grand poobah's vote to
  count as 3 votes.

- Check current election status
Displays who you voted for and also how many people have voted for you.

- Resign from office
Use this option to resign from one or more of the special offices. You will
be removed from office and new elections may be held immediatly.

Note: It is not permissable to hold more than one office. If you are
elected to multiple offices, you will be forced to abdicate from them until
you hold only one office before you are once again allowed to play the
  game.

- Impeach an officer
The Lord Governor may use this option to remove another player from office.

- Arrest a criminal
The Holy Paladin may arrest another player by using this option. The two
players are immediatly teleported to a jail cell full of hidden monsters.
As long as the paladin is present, they will not attack. But, if the
paladin does leave, you have a 60 second grace period from the moment you
were arrested before they will attack you. Once arrested, there are only
  four ways out of jail:

  1. Pay the fine
  2. Fight your way out. If you kill all the monsters in jail with you, you
     can then leave
  3. Be pardoned by the High Judge
  4. Die

If you've been arrested and wish to pay your fine, simply attempt to exit
from the jail. You will then be asked if you want to pay the fine. The fine
amount will be extracted from your bank account and you will be immediately
  teleported back to town square.

- Free a prisoner from jail
Only the High Judge may pardon people who have been jailed by the Holy
Paladin. Once pardoned, the prisoner is forgiven their fine and returned
  to town square.

- Assign evil points
Depending on how your sysop has configured the game, the high judge may
also have the ability to assign evil points to players.

- Forgive evil points
Depending on how your sysop has configured the game, the high judge may
also have the ability to forgive players' evil points.

Why Offices?
------------
Though the world is in Chaos, you and your compadres may attempt to put the
stamp of civilized society on the realm. Players may use the offices to help
establish law and order in a chaotic realm (or, on the other hand, they may
just use them for their own devious ends).

Although each of the offices has a special ability, it is really up to the
individual office holder (as well as society at large, who actually place
them into office), to decide the duties and responsibilities of each office.

Aside from the coded special abilities, it is totally up to the discretion
of the office holders as to how they administrate their offices. Like the
real world, let the promises of the candidates and their subsequent actions
determine whether or not you re-elect them (or decide to run yourself).
Despite the formal names, there is no presumed behavior for any of the
offices. The Holy Paladin, once elected, may decide to become completely
corrupt and start a reign of UNHOLY terror. At that point it's up to the
other office holders and the populace at large to evict them from office
(or from life in general).
