Here are a list of changes make to the defaults in places it was less
complex simply to give you the changes to make...

Starting with Renegade's directory structure:

Add directory .\DOCS, preferably with a note that nice programs
should place their documentation here if they install to the main
Renegade directory (cdrmail, etc--though I personally give
cdrmail its own dir because of the multiple processor vers)

Add LOGON.BAT to .\, no note needed for this one. The batch file
does nothing useful (echo's some info to screen, no more) but it
serves as part of my example for at-logon bulletin generators and
the like. It's self documenting and called by the start menu.

Unzip to .\DATA the file DATA.ZIP. This contains new MBASES.DAT,
     SCHEME.DAT, and STRING.DAT files. The MBASES.DAT adds a System
Messages base in a generic form. The new System base is scanned
by the start menu. The SCHEME.DAT is the 5-11-96 default file
with the 10 ^ colors redefined, done for the sake of making the
generic menus look tollerable. Other colors are still uglier
than hell but that's what the sysop is supposed to fix. The
STRING.DAT is the default from 5-11 sans ^ codes, they've all
been converted to | format. The Sysop could go without changing
them, but I would advise changing them--again the Sysop's job,
     not mine.

.\MISC, delete everything in it. Unpack MISC.ZIP to it.

.\MENU, delete everything in it and unpack MENU.ZIP.

Optionally create .\PROT, the installer might do this, anyway, it
should not be blank, though nothing I've done with the menus
would hurt if it were. SmartProt OTOH... (Which we're working
hard on 5.0 which is no longer just an INSTALLER but a protocol
handler. I hoped for this in 4.0 but. Anyway ...) Name not
important. Existance of the dir, however, is.

Changes to files:

RENEGADE.DAT: Turn on multinode. It's safe to have on even if
you don't have multinode and the menus are designed for it.

RENEGADE.DAT: I changed the info for Cott's board to info for
yours since his is not there now. Doesn't matter what you put
     here really, but.

RENEGADE.DAT: Set the start menu to START rather than MAIN.

NODE1.DAT: Set the dropfile path to an expanded .\TEMP1 on
creation. Personally I would make this the base by default on
creation of new nodes, it's a clean way of doing it. Speaking of
clean, Renegade will, so it's good for debugging.

     RENEGADE.DAT: Full Sysop "s255", CoSysop "s250", Fileop "s200",
and MsgOp "(s199!s200)|s201". These are levels the menus use.

RENEGADE.DAT: I turned off IEMSI, logon is faster w/o it and
most terminals use dain bramaged IEMSI when it's supported at
all. (Terminate for example) PLEASE turn on Swap shell function
by default. I'm tired of answering that one ... =>

RENEGADE.DAT: I set the network settings default colors to
1,3,9,5 like the message base defaults. I changed the origin
line to "Another Renegade BBS"--neither are essential, but "This
is the F1 macro!" just was too silly, even for me. =>

RENEGADE.DAT: Offline mail config, Access for network .REP "%"
(this may be the default now, it wasn't before) and I turned on
ignore time for DL of a QWK packet.
