B.B.S.
MY COLLECTION OF BBS RESEARCH

TIMELINE
An attempt to make an easy way to browse the timeline of BBS history, see what events happened when, and try to make sense of the progression of technology and society over the last 25 years or so. Still somewhat sparse (less than 150 events) but designed to grow, and grow large.

BBS SOFTWARE
It helps, when talking about the nature and history of BBSes, to be able to browse a library of all the different BBS Software for all the computer and OS platforms and see what they were like. No such all-inclusive list exists that I can find, so I started one. It's up to nearly 500 BBS Software packages, but needs a lot of filling out of details. Make a very nice contact checklist for interviews, too.

TRANSFER PROTOCOLS
It became pretty obvious, and in fact became obvious before the advent of the BBS, that there would need to be a way to ensure that binary files transferred between computers would have to be perfect, not one bit awry, and to do that, you needed a way to check that the data you sent was recieved correctly. From that came XMODEM, and from XMODEM have come many, many protocols afterwards. Here's my page with my research into that.

STICKY WICKETS AND CHASED FACTS
I have come across subjects that are kind of entire universes in themselves, where a pithy paragraph in an essay won't tell me enough and will cause me to tread the same ground over and over. This page gives me a place to put all the notes and the links/files I find to support the concept. It's all over the place, but look inside and see if you have some input.
