According to program author Frank LaRosa, who will be on hand at the convention to demonstrate the new version and distribute copies, the major new feature planned for this release is a modifiable menu system which will allow Sysops to design their own series of commands. "I've listened to a lot of requests for this kind of flexibility recently", said Frank. "Rather than add the capability for a few custom commands, as some have suggested, I've designed a flexible menu system that will allow Searchlight sysops to totally rewrite Searchlight's default menus to their liking". The new version will allow Sysops to create menu choices that can execute internal Searchlight commands, external DOORS, other menus, or batch-file like command lists. Other new features planned for the 2.25 release include expanded message disposition commands, threadwide operations, binary uploads and downloads to the message editor, new security configurations, new user preferences, expiration dates, session time limits, and more. Searchlight 2.25 will be available to those who attend the Eastern Lights '92 convention. The upgrade is free for customers who purchased their first copy of Searchlight in the past 12 months, and have not yet received a major upgrade. For others, the upgrade fee will be $30. For those who cannot attend the convention, mail ordering of upgrades will begin in March. EASTERN LIGHTS 1992, WASHINGTON, DC Continuing in the tradition of last year's successful convention in Virginia Beach, Eastern Lights 1992 will bring Searchlight sysops from far and wide together for three days of exciting presentations, group discussions, and general "human interfacing". Non-sysops, as well as those interested in learning more about Searchlight BBS, are also welcome to attend. Scheduled to attend this year's conference are Searchlight author Frank LaRosa, SL_NET coordiator Tim Otty, Door authors Tim Rossiter and Jim Barry, and Searchlight representative Barry Dowell, who will serve as host for the event. Searchlight Sysops from as far away as England are expected to be on hand. Don't miss this great opportunity to meet your fellow Sysops and get in on discussions that are guaranteed to help shape the development of Searchlight BBS for the coming year! Tickets for Eastern Lights 1992 are $10 in advance, or $15 at the door. A special $49 per night room rate is available at the Hampton Inn for the duration of the conference, with 1 free convention ticket provided for each room rental. To reserve a room, call the Hampton Inn at 301-499-4600 (be sure to mention Eastern Lights 1992). Those who cannot attend on the 27th are welcome to join the convention later in the weekend. In order to obtain the convention rate, reservations must be placed no later than February 13th. For more information, or to reserve tickets, please contact Barry Dowell at 301-627-5132 (mention Eastern Lights 1992 when you call). --------------- -- fnord
