NEW! COMMODORK, BY ROB O'HARA

From author Rob "Flack" O'Hara (website) comes what may be the first BBS memoir - a combination of stories, memories and thoughts on an era of growing up with bulletin board systems and what they meant to a man's life and growth. Commodork: Sordid Tales from a BBS Junkie is part history and part testimony to how bulletin board systems could be both a technical challenge and a social experience as well.

The book has been autographed by the author. 163 pages, with many photographs from Flack's life and of BBS events and artifacts. The price is $20, which includes shipping. If you buy a copy of the BBS Documentary at the same time, the price drops to $10.

THE DARK DOMAIN DVD-ROM

One of the BBS Documentary episodes, ARTSCENE, tells the story of the ANSI Art Scene, a group of BBS-based artists who used text and terminal codes to create breathtaking works of art. One of the prominent members of this scene, RaD Man, began to maintain a collection of artwork and "art packs" which eventually became known as the "ACiD Artpacks Archive". Over the years, this collection was changed, grown, and eventually grew into multiple gigabytes.

In 2003, RaD Man compiled these gigabytes of artwork, music and other programs into a DVD-ROM called DARK DOMAIN (the name is strange, granted) which he then has sold, basically for the cost of printing. It's a basic DVD-ROM, with 4 gigabytes of ANSI and related artwork, and packaged in a simple case with some nice art on the cover.

If you want to look at the contents of this DVD-ROM, the entire contents are available at CD.TEXTFILES.COM, in this location. The cost is for the packaging and the convenience, not the material inside.

RaD Man has sent me a box of these DVD-ROMs and I am making them available both separately and as a "value pack" with the BBS Documentary. The price is $15 alone or $10 with a BBS Documentary DVD Set.

NEW! BUY JUST THE PACKAGING FOR $10

Recently, my printing/duplication company (the excellent Bullseye Disc out of Portland, Oregon) were throwing out old inventory and they found several boxes of overstock printed material, basically the packaging, to the BBS Documentary. This is the slipcover, and the inside four-panel tray that would hold DVDs. They didn't find DVDs.

Since this documentary is licensed Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike, people are free to make copies of the DVDs, but in doing so, they lose a couple good features. Among these features are the convenience of having 18 gigabytes of data in their hands in a professionally printed set of DVDs, and of course the packaging. This is not just a plastic slipcover and a disk stuck inside; if you check the pictures, you can see the quality that went into them.

Since throwing these out would be a waste, I figure we can make all sides happy and I can put these things up for sale. I'm selling them for $10, which is a fair price considering there's no DVDs inside. I have to make that clear: THERE ARE NO DVDS INSIDE THESE. THIS IS JUST THE PACKAGING. You should purchase above if you want the full, proper package.
