Henderson System Enhancement Associates, Inc. 21 New Street Wayne, New Jersey 07470 Dear Mr. Henderson: When I first learned of your suit against Phil Katz I was hardly surprised. Neither was I pleased. After participating in several BBS conversations in the Chicago area about the suit and talking with fellow SYSOP's, I made the decision to remove your archive utility from the Chicago Computer Society Bulletin Board System and announce my actions to the membership via BBS message. I received overwhelming support from the Society. Needless to say, I was disappointed in the settlement announcement. Phil has mentioned several times in conjunction with conversations about the non-compatible squashing technique that further performance enhancements could be achieved if he were to drop compatibility altogether. I was prepared to wait for him to prove it. You're latest legal action has caused me to rethink that position. I have decided to implement whatever Phil produces as soon as possible and bar any further SEA compatible archive uploads. If you are somehow successful in forcing Phil out of business, then I am prepared to convert to Rahul Desai's ZOO format or any other utility which will achieve my users desires from an archive program. In short, I will not contribute to your blatant attempt at intimidation. Decency requires that when you make a business decision you accept the consequences like a grownup. You, obviously, are determined to prevent users from benefiting from any improvements unless they accrue income to you. You should have considered that problem when you chose to move into other operating systems instead of optimizing MS-DOS performance. Sincerely, Peter G. Olivola
