To: BILL WEST Refer#: 1959 From: SYSOP (VERN BUERG) Read: YES Subj: SEA ARC Status: PUBLIC MESSAGE . I have stated my opinion about the SEA vs PK stuff, but I've tried to keep a low profile on it. I have an arrangement with SEA that allows me to write and distribute ARC programs; SEA says I "did it right". Beyond that, I know enough "facts" to feel that PK blew it and that SEA has put themselves in a very unpopular position by asserting their rights. . There are some disturbing items: ARC and, apparently its format, are trademarked, etc. I don't see that as being in the best interest of personal computer users. I would like to see a new system come out of all of this, i.e. one that is public domain, or if copyrighted that it be free. I'm not in a position to make such a system given my relationship with SEA and my limited field of expertise, i.e. MS DOS and no Amiga, Atari, Mac, OS/2, UNIX, etc, capability. . To sum it up, I think all the rumor mongering and name calling is a waste of time and energy. If folks really feel strongly one way or the other, I think it's better to take positive action, e.g. support the author of your choice, or create an alternative.
